Compliance and Standards
In Gujarat, electrical safety matting comes under the Chief Electrical Inspector to the Government of Gujarat, a statutory authority under the state’s Energy and Petrochemicals Department. The IS 15652:2006 compliance requirement for switchgear rooms, transformer bays and panel areas is enforced by the Electrical Inspectorate during mandatory audits of HT-connected facilities across all of these zones, regardless of which utility supplies the power. Duratuf’s electrical mats are manufactured and type-tested to IS 15652:2006 and carry the ISI mark with BIS approval, which is what inspection officers look for during those checks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does IS 15652 apply to data centre and financial services electrical rooms in GIFT City?
Yes. IS 15652:2006 applies to any electrical installation where an operator works near live switchgear, UPS panels, distribution boards or generator rooms, regardless of sector. GIFT City's data centre campuses and financial services buildings run the same LT and HT electrical infrastructure as any industrial facility, and the compliance requirement for matting in those panel areas is identical.
Our Vatva facility has both an LT main panel and an HT receiving station. Do we need different mat classes for each area?
Yes. The class is determined by the system voltage in each specific area, not the facility as a whole. Your LT main panel area needs Class A matting (3.3 kV working voltage). Your HT receiving station needs Class B at 11 kV or Class C at 33 kV depending on the system voltage in that area. Each room with live equipment needs its own correctly rated mat.
Our Vatva GIDC unit has been operational since the 1970s. Do older industrial installations still have to meet IS 15652 compliance?
Yes. The IS 15652:2006 obligation applies to any active electrical installation regardless of when the building was constructed. Gujarat's Electrical Inspectorate does not exempt older GIDC units from compliance during mandatory periodic inspections. Older Vatva and Naroda facilities are frequently flagged during audits precisely because safety equipment from decades ago is rarely still compliant.
