With correct use and routine checks, a good-quality IS 15652 mat lasts 5 to 6 years. A supplier quoted me 6 mm electrical rubber mats. Is that IS 15652 compliant?
No. IS 15652:2006 covers only three thickness classes: 2.0 mm (Class A), 2.5 mm (Class B) and 3.0 mm (Class C). Mats thicker than 3.0 mm fall outside the standard and cannot carry a valid ISI mark for electrical insulation purposes. If a supplier is quoting 6 mm or 8 mm as IS 15652 certified, ask for the BIS licence number and type test certificate before accepting the supply.
